Bill Brown

Bill Brown is the first Director of Sustainability for Indiana University where he catalyzes sustainability initiatives in academic programs and campus operations. He also teaches classes in Sustainability Leadership through the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs and leads IU's innovative Sustainability Internship program. As an architect specializing in green architecture since graduation from Ball State University, Bill has been involved in the national green architecture movement, including service with the steering group of the AIA National Committee on the Environment. He participated in the Greening of the White House in 1993 and later founded Sustainable Evansville to bring those design principles back home to Indiana. His projects as an architect include dozens of public schools and libraries, culminating most recently in the design of two net-zero-energy public libraries. He served as the Chair of the Indiana Chapter of the US Green Building Council and Co-chair of the Indianapolis Green Commission. He is a recipient of two national AIA Presidential Awards for service to the profession and a US Green Building Council national award for organizational excellence. Bill was honored with an Award of Outstanding Achievement by the Ball State University College of Architecture and Planning Alumni Board in 2006.
